Challenge

Sahra roasts three origins a week and sells them from one counter. The bags were bought plain and labelled by hand, so nothing on the shelf said who roasted the coffee, or when.

Approach

We started with one bag and one label. Origin, roast date and brew notes each have a fixed place, so a new lot is a line of type, not a new design — the pack stays recognisable on the shelf from week to week.

A kraft coffee bag printed with a line drawing of the plant, standing on a wooden counter.
The markOne line drawing per origin, printed in the same black as the type — one ink, one pass, nothing to foil.
Two kraft boxes tied with string, each carrying the same small printed tag.The plain paper pouch the system is built on, unprinted, on a white ground.
Colour directionUncoated kraft and near-black. The coffee is the only colour on the shelf, so the pack never competes with it — the boxes and tags take the same three lines.
Looking down into an open bag of roasted beans.
Roast dateThe loudest line on the label. It is the one thing that changes every batch, so it takes the space.
The roaster at work, beans turning in the drum.
The stampPressed from the roastery's own mark after roasting, on the day the bag ships.

Final result

The café at service, with the menu board hanging over the counter.
In placeThe bag, the board and the counter they were drawn for.
Grounds in the portafilter and a finished cup on the counter.Three hands meeting over three cups of coffee.Roasted beans in a white bowl on a marble counter.

One bag, one label. Everything else can change.
